Old paper, water and
simple paste are the essential components.

Papier-mâché is a robust substance, very simple to fabricate

  • Papier-mâché...

To prepare my papier-mâché compound I use old newspaper sheets.
Cheap, the outcome is a surprisingly flexible matière, a cellulose with multiple, transformative and inventiv abilities.
Once dry it is particularly strong and resistant in its consistency.

    page top How to prepare...

  • 1. Shred the paper

    Cut the sheets.
Fill water in a bucket, drench the shavings
  • 2. Wring out the water

    Retrieve the sloppy shavings
    and let liquid drain off
  • 3. Add the paste

    Now like a dough,
    knead thouroughly the mixture
  • 4. Sqeeze to a lump

Let the papier-mâché rest for some minutes,
    before using the compound
  • 5. The medium is ready

Best is to work in layers
    with drying periods in between

Recycled, newspaper sheets could be affiliated with ‘longetivity’... Why?
Just consider centuries of human´s lifetime embodied on printed newspaper!
Sheet and Ink are reflecting the patient story of civilisation, being witness of ‘day to day consistency’, and though, reversing in its mean the image of ‘digital modernity’ which artificially inflates the presumption to be paperless but pixel genuine and
    quickly erasable.
